In a groundbreaking celebration of artistry and inclusivity, Tiffany & Co., in partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), has awarded its first-ever Jewelry Designer Award to visionary talent Jameel Mohammed. This landmark accolade not only honors Mohammed’s bold creativity but also provides a $50,000 prize and a prestigious year-long fellowship within Tiffany & Co.’s design department.
The announcement was made during an exclusive cocktail reception at Tiffany & Co.’s iconic Fifth Avenue flagship, The Landmark. The event celebrated the future of American jewelry design, with Tiffany & Co.’s Global Vice President of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, Stéphanie Oueda-Cruz, alongside CFDA CEO Steven Kolb and Tiffany & Co. CMO Andrea Davey, presenting the award to Mohammed.
The evening brought together luminaries from the worlds of fashion and jewelry, including Bethann Hardison, Jason Wu, and Frank Everett, who also served on the award’s selection committee. Their presence underscored the significance of this initiative, which aims to foster inclusivity and amplify diverse voices within the design community.
The award’s journey began in October 2024, when ten promising designers were selected to participate in a transformative four-month program. This experience challenged them to honor Tiffany & Co.’s legacy while infusing their own distinct creative visions. From mentorship sessions with Tiffany’s design team to exclusive tours of The Landmark and the Jewelry Design and Innovation Workshop, the program provided invaluable insights into sustainability, gemstone intricacies, and visual merchandising—all through Tiffany Atrium and CFDA Impact’s socially conscious platforms.
Jameel Mohammed emerged as the standout talent from this cohort, which included creatives like Angie Marei, David Perry, and Hi Vu. Selected by a panel that included industry icons such as Gabrielle Union and Joan Smalls, Mohammed’s work exemplifies how heritage and modernity can merge to create something extraordinary.
This award is more than a win for Jameel Mohammed—it’s a powerful statement about the future of luxury design. Tiffany & Co. and CFDA are setting a new standard for collaboration by championing diversity and pushing creative boundaries, proving that inclusivity is a catalyst for innovation.
